North Kingstown (School Committee, 5-10-16) will hear "Smithfield School Committee Resolution - Gun Free Schools April 2016"
correspondence regarding House Bill H7243 and the Senate companion bill S2761 .
It's unknown if they will vote to support or oppose it, but Smithfield did vote against it.
This bill will prohibit those who have a Concealed Carry Permit (CCP) from carrying in schools.
This will do nothing to make our children safer, but rather contrary make them less safe.
More importantly, it will also leave many unable to defend themselves against attackers since it will
be known when and where they are most vulnerable.
The school committee will also hear this resolution on Tuesday April 12th and this email will be sent to them as well.
Please fill out the form below to contact the Town Council and ask them to oppose the resolution.

Glocester Town Council,
Please do NOT support the resolution to ban concealed carry permit (CCP) holders from school grounds. The notion that making schools
gun free zones makes school children safer is simply not true. To the contrary, it makes them helpless targets for deranged killers.
Here are the facts:
1: The information from the Violence Policy Center cited in the resolution to support banning CCPs is false.
The article at this website shows the VPC’s “study” is full of errors, http://truthinmedia.com/reality-check-can-armed-citizens-stop-mass-shootings/.
The VPC is well known for producing inaccurate anti-firearm “information.”
2: As much as they probably tried, the VPC “study” did not find a single incident of a CCP shooting school children in Rhode Island (which has had CCPs since the 1920s)—or in the entire nation. By contrast, a Google search will show you that a number of times CCPs have prevented school shootings or reduced the number of children shot. You will also find dozens of cases of CCPs saving innocent people in other mass shooting incidents and thousands of violent crimes prevented or innocent lives saved by CCPs.
So on one hand there is the false premise this resolution is based on, that CCPs are a danger in schools. On the other, there are the facts that CCWs have actually saved lives in schools and elsewhere.
3: There are at least 13 million CCPs in the nation. You haven’t heard of any problems with Rhode Island’s 4,200 CCPs because there haven’t been any issues with them. Many CCP permit holders are ex-military, retired law enforcement, and highly responsible people with many years of firearms experience.
This website contains facts showing that CCPs make society safer, http://www.gunfacts.info/gun-control-myths/concealed-carry/.
Rhode Island has permitted concealed carry for nearly 100 years, with no problems reported anywhere I can find.
4: A gun-free zone sign outside a school is ineffective to say the least and an invitation to a mass shooting at worst. Who believes a deranged person bent on killing children will see a gun-free zone sign at a school and go away? By their own admission, school shooters crave the enormous publicity that killing large numbers of children gives them. So isn’t it more likely than not that someone seeking maximum attention would target
a school knowing that there is no chance of encountering armed resistance and he will be free to murder until the police arrive?
5: Facts and common sense make clear that banning CCPs from school grounds makes children less safe. In voting in favor of this resolution, the Town Council would be on the wrong side of this potentially life-and-death issue. Please do NOT support this resolution.
Thank you for your time.
